Librarian I, Circulation Department

35 hours weekly, incl. one night per week and every other Saturday


$41,698.68-$52,123.35 (Salary determined by educational
attainment per collective bargaining agreement

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Understands and is able to perform all jobs related to circulation services including checking materials in and out; registering new patrons; maintenance of patron records.
  • Providing reader’s advisory service and user instruction to patrons
  • Assists with book selection and takes recommendations for items to be purchased
  • Assist with planning and implementing appropriate programs for adults
  • Provides patrons with general information on library services; assists and instructs patrons in using library services, equipment, and facilities
  • Serve as a liaison to community agencies and groups
  • Makes presentations to community groups communicating library programs and services.
  • Prepare publicity for services and resources
  • Maintain awareness in library trends
  • Reads and reviews books and other library materials
  • Provide excellent customer service
  • Receives and resolves circulation-related problems
  • Assists with interpretation and enforcement of library policies
  • Attend relevant workshops
  • Other duties as required
  • Minimum four-year college degree/MLS preferred
  • Considerable knowledge of library services, programs and literature
  • Relevant experience working in a public library, a demonstrated customer-service orientation, and familiarity with automated integrated library systems preferred
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with library staff and library patrons
  • Excellent knowledge of online communications and social networking tools
  • Ability to work with people of all ages and backgrounds required
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time, reach overhead, bend down, and push book carts weighing up to 50 lbs.
